Since this post was written in June, things have not gotten any better for our former quarterback, Mike Reilly. BC is now 1 and 9. Yikes. Meanwhile Edmonton is 6 and 4 and has the leading passer in the CFL (Trevor Harris), but have some troubles in the Red Zone.
We used to be CFL Edmonton Eskimo season ticket holders for 40 years, but found we were missing more games than we got to. Since 2015, we have made a pact to attend one game a year. Over the off season free agency period, our star Quarterback decided to move to the B.C. Lions to be closer to his family in Seattle. We were fortunate to grab another top quarterback from an Eastern CFL team. While our first effort of the season had a good outcome, we were far from certain this would be a trend all season long.
At Christmas, L & A gave us the gift of 2 tickets to the game of our choice. We chose to rip the bandage off early, by going to the Eskie/Lion game. I did not take my camera to the game, so all photos are by my Patty. Did she not do a fine job?
Oh, and the final score was Eskies 39 – Lions 23. Yay. Eskies sacked Reilly 7 times and were flagged for roughing the passer 5 times (a bit of fine tuning is required to clean up the penalties). Watch out for the rematch and then the rubber. I am sure this ain’t over yet.
Life of Reilly
Into the storied halls, we came
under banners of past glory.
Our single live yearly game,
we hoped would tell the story
of changes, free agency,
both on and off our Eskies.
Reilly, now the enemy
was hoping to be pesky.
Early on, we looked a sight
and could not get much going.
Nonetheless, we fought the fight
and Harris kept on throwing.
At last, we stopped the bleeding
and slowly clawed our way back.
By half time, Eskies leading
and both teams were talking smack.
In second half, more good play
by our Eskies, green and gold,
now, in front we hoped to stay,
Reilly looked like days of old.
Time and time, again we got
him underneath sack pile. We
felt bad for Mike, who was not
living the life of Reilly.
