Dinner in the Grove – Howard Douglas Lake – Back Country Hike – July 2019 – Part 16

The pattern repeated…

  1. arrive at campsite
  2. set up tent and fly
  3. purify some water. A good fresh source of running water exists here
  4. Fire up the cook stove to prep for coffee and then supper.
  5. Duck and cover from falling rain.
  6. Finish cooking and eating in the rain.

The problem at this campsite is that the cooking/eating area is out in the open. One of our tent pads had a nice grove of evergreens behind it that provide shelter from the rain. We were able to dine in relative comfort until the branches above us reached the saturation point and started to anoint us with rain drops.

Right after supper and cleanup, the showers stopped and we resumed normal (if not sodden) operating activities. I will do a separate post on our evening hike.

Our tent just as rain drops start
Coffee/hot chocolate under the “Grove”
So far, so dry.
One group commandeered the entire dining area, so we were left to play our evening card game on a vacant tent pad. There are only 5 tent sites here, so this vacant spot was fortunate for us.
