Flat as a Pancake – NOT!

Always looking for ideas to use excess Levain Mother (sourdough starter), we came across this idea from one of our neighbours.

The recipe is very simple, with only 3/4 cup of Mother required, 1 egg, 2 tablespoons water, 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil, 1/3 cup of non fat dry milk powder, 3/4 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 1 1/2 Tablespoons of sugar.

You can see the recipe and the mixture below.

you can see how high the mixture rises in just 6 minutes between first and second photos below.

It only makes 2 pancakes, but they are huge and fluffy.

Yummy with berries.

  1. I remember in the good old days – we had a “starter” that was passed around. It was a friendship loaf – kind of like a cinnamon loaf. You had to add things to it on certain days – and then before you make it – you kept so much of the “starter”. Passed some to the friends and kept some for yourself. I made those loaves for years. So much fun
