When we used to visit our friends in Saskatoon in the 1990s, we always made sure to head down the South Saskatchewan River towards the weir to see the pelicans. Fast forward more than 20 years and we no longer have to travel to see pelicans. It would seem they have taken a liking to our storm ponds and they are around town frequently in June/July.
This Fills the Bill
Bobbing and preening, they float upon storm pond,
grazing vegetation of leafy green frond.
They seem to be happy as they eat their fill,
heads tipped way back, the food seems to fill the bill.
Why are they here on this small humble water,
no doubt they’ll leave soon, to go where they ought-er.
