European Vacation – September 18/19/20/21 and 22/19 – Riomaggiore (Cinque Terre), Italy (Part 5) – Hand in Hand by the Sea

Hand in Hand by the Sea

Take my hand, my love and we’ll go visit a place,

where bright coloured buildings tumble down to the sea

as pretty boats bob up and down, in time and space

while water birds soar through bright, blue skies, high and free.

As warm September sunshine caresses your face,

I recall the vow I once made on bended knee,

before we held each other in warm, sweet embrace,

as you whispered softly that you would marry me.

Take my hand, my love and we’ll go visit a place,

where bright coloured buildings tumble down to the sea.

The appeal of the villages in Cinque Terre is how they interact with the water and the surrounding hills. Some villages are right down at the water while others sit atop a small plateau, high above the water. They are all gems in their own way.

Riomaggiore sweeps down the valley to the sea, a focal point for the village, tourism, sunsets, transportation and fishing. We went down to the harbour often on each of our days in Rio. This post deals with all visits except our sunset visits, which was in a previous post.

Shortly after arriving on Day 1, we just had to go down for a look.
