Living Small – Takeout Wednesday – Langano Skies

One of our favourite Edmonton Restaurants is Langano Skies, serving the best Ethiopian food we have found in all our travels. The only place that comes close is one our son B took us to in Oakland, while he was attending Berkeley.

Our other son L, recently sent us some pix of their recent quarantine take out from Langano Skies and we immediately started salivating. We had take out food from this restaurant twice before (once for a trip to Jasper and another time for a trip to visit friends in Carstairs), so we knew it would be delicious.

So, for our Takeout Wednesday choice this week, we called up Amsale and placed an order for pickup the next day.

Take out is only offered from 4:30 PM to closing time, so best to check available dates and times by phoning the restaurant. We arrived at just before 4:30 yesterday afternoon. This would have normally been difficult on this portion of Whyte Avenue, as rush hour would have been in full swing. During Covid, rush hour is not really a rush and there was plenty of parking available in the adjacent lot.

We walked inside to see smiling Amsale, truly glad to see us, but alas, no hugs during this meeting. Our food was ready and waiting, the Interac terminal was freshly wiped with alcohol and we were in business.

It seemed sad to see this vibrant restaurant so empty, but our spirits were buoyed by the aroma of the Ethiopian food coming from our packages.

Home in no time, we set about preparing the meal, by reheating it all, except the Injera, in our oven. While my presentation may be lacking, the food was as amazing as ever and we had ordered enough for 2 meals. Thanks Amsale. We will see you again, soon.

    1. When Liam sent us his photos of takeout from Langano, we wondered why we had not thought of it sooner. It was delicious. Yes, I think we are all longing for company and warm hugs. Stay well, Jane. Allan
