Living Small – Spring is Sprung

Photos taken May 2/20.

There are many versions of this poem that I am sure most of my, ahem “more mature” readers have heard when they were growing up.

The version I recall

Spring is Sprung

Spring is sprung, the grass is riz
I wonder where the birdie is.
The bird is on the wing? How absurd!
I always thought the wing was on the bird.

Google also shows this version from the New York area.

Spring iz Sprung

“Spring iz sprung, da grass iz riz,
I wonder where dem boidies iz?
Da little boids iz on da wing. Ain’t dat absoid?
Da little wings iz on da boid.”

Either way, Hallelujah. Winter is over and things are greening up. How is spring going in your part of the world? Or autumn, if you are from the Southern hemisphere?

a flock of Sandhill cranes heading North
last year’s berries and this year’s buds
spring is bursting forth
My chives only uncovered from the snow for about 10 days
My rhubarb awakes from winter slumber
I can taste the pies, cakes and crumbles now. Yummm

  1. The chives we’ve been busy harvesting but our rhubarb is a bit late but looks healthier than any of the 8 years we’ve had it so here is hoping. Tonight if asparagus feed number 2 so that’s a great spring bonus!!
