Another group of new babies I wanted to see down at the lake was the coots. A few years ago, I did not even know that coots were a thing. Then, we saw them in Yorkshire, England and when we got home, I noticed them on our lake. I guess I was oblivious.
This year, the coots were residing on the island, far from even my long lens. There was a lot of coot fighting going on, splishing and splashing. Not even sure what that was about, perhaps territorial.
So, I concentrated on those shots and then low and behold, mom and pop took their little yellow baby coots out for a swim. Maybe, I will have better luck next trip,
Tucked in between their coot Mom and Pop,
spiky yellow chicks bob up and down.
With beak and face that a clock would stop,
dressed as they are, each looks like a clown.
Nonetheless, Mom and Pop are so proud,
nasty comments, they don’t give a hoot!
Swimming about in costume so loud,
their babies are so ugly, they’re coot.
