After leaving Four Seasons Park on our bicycles, we continued on to do a modified circumnavigation of our city. Something made me want to stop at one of usual areas to look at the storm water pond. Typically, this is a place for Canada Geese and ducks, so we thought that was what we would see here. To our surprise, we were greeted with the sight of 5 pelicans feeding heartily.
While we had a decent view, the pelicans were quite a ways away and managed to maneuver closer as other walkers and cyclist moved along.
As we watched, other pelicans came and went, until they had enough of the watching humans and they all took off, soaring higher and higher into the sky.
I imagine they only spent a couple of days here on their way North, so our timing was pretty near perfect.
(They actually hung around here for a couple of weeks)
Not much to tell. After working for 3 companies over 43+ years (38 years 7 months with my last company), I finally got that promotion I had waited my entire career for……retirement.
I have been exploring this new career for the past 7+ years and while it is not always exciting, the chance to do what I want for myself and my family instead of what my company wants has been very fulfilling. Early on, there was a long list of projects in my “to-do” hopper and I attacked these projects with a vengeance for the first 9 months of retirement. Eventually, my brain told me that this was not what retirement was about, so it took me another 5 months before my industriousness again took over and I attacked another line of projects, this time somewhat shorter and less complicated, as well as many new projects related to the family weddings in 2016. After going hard for 6 weeks and 3 weddings, my body was telling me to relax, then the flu bug hit and as soon as that was done with me, my sciatic acted up. No rest for the wicked. In 2020 and 2021, the Covid 19 pandemic changed the whole retirement gig. I was lucky to not be still working, for sure.
I enjoy photography, gardening, working with my hands, walking, cycling, skiing, travelling, reading and creating special photo and video productions obtained in my first pastime. I may never become wealthy in any of these pursuits, but I already feel I am rich in life experiences far beyond any expectation.

I love pelicans, they look absolutely amazing! I never knew you can see them in Alberta, that’s a big surprise. Thanks for sharing such wanderful photographs and have a good day 😀 Aiva
These white ones are quite magnificent. The brown pelicans in California were nice, but I think the ones here are a bit prettier. I am surprised that they are actually still in the area. They must be finding enough food. Thanks for reading Aiva. Allan
They may have been on their way to the Fort Smith/Wood Buffalo Park area as many of them summer there. An artist friend does a lot of paintings of them.
That is what I thought too, until my bike ride out in the country today. They are still here. Maybe the like all the rain we have been getting lately. Certainly, they must have found a steady food source. Thanks for reading Lynette. Allan
Totally. Out on our bike ride the other day, we could still see the pelicans flying around, so looks like they still reside somewhere nearby. Good to see. Thanks for reading Colleen. Allan
