If it is possible, my heart is both broken and bursting with pride for my city of Edmonton. Yeah, I know I have lived in Beaumont for the past 29 years, but Edmonton will always be my city.
Edmonton is known as the Festival City, particularly in the summer when there is a festival of some sort every weekend, or maybe two or three.
This weekend would have been the 41st edition of the Edmonton Folk Music Festival, an annual 4 day festival of folk music held at Gallagher Park.
The link below is a special production of clips from the past 40 years and some truly great performances. It is 1 hour and 41 minutes long, but well worth the watch. It is only available until the end of day on August 9/20 Mountain Standard Time. Give it a look if you have the time.
Here is hoping it is back for next year.

Not much to tell. After working for 3 companies over 43+ years (38 years 7 months with my last company), I finally got that promotion I had waited my entire career for……retirement.
I have been exploring this new career for the past 7+ years and while it is not always exciting, the chance to do what I want for myself and my family instead of what my company wants has been very fulfilling. Early on, there was a long list of projects in my “to-do” hopper and I attacked these projects with a vengeance for the first 9 months of retirement. Eventually, my brain told me that this was not what retirement was about, so it took me another 5 months before my industriousness again took over and I attacked another line of projects, this time somewhat shorter and less complicated, as well as many new projects related to the family weddings in 2016. After going hard for 6 weeks and 3 weddings, my body was telling me to relax, then the flu bug hit and as soon as that was done with me, my sciatic acted up. No rest for the wicked. In 2020 and 2021, the Covid 19 pandemic changed the whole retirement gig. I was lucky to not be still working, for sure.
I enjoy photography, gardening, working with my hands, walking, cycling, skiing, travelling, reading and creating special photo and video productions obtained in my first pastime. I may never become wealthy in any of these pursuits, but I already feel I am rich in life experiences far beyond any expectation.

I’m sorry to hear that lots of festivals are still getting cancelled, but I’m glad to hear you love where you live. The place where we live in and the culture it brings with it also becomes part of who we are. 😀😀😀

We had never been to Folk Fest and now we see what we missed, we are a wee bit sad. That video production is fantastic and made us feel like we were there. Losing culture only makes the Covid isolation deeper. Hope other start to do virtual things so people can feel a sense of belonging. Stay well Aiva. Allan

well it is the smart thing to do . . . sadly. Cheyenne Frontier Days were canceled. But not the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. 😦

The Sturgis gathering scares the H— out of me. Watch out for a spike in 10-14 days. Stay well. Allan

This pandemic has cost us so much, but all we can do is be patient and ride it out. I hope the festivals are back next year!

If the festivals do productions like this one, we can all wait. Thanks for reading Ann. Allan

My fiance lived in Cold Lake and said that Klondike Days was his favorite. Great post.

Unfortunately, Northlands, the group who oversaw this festival opted to change it to Capital Ex and then K-Days and drop the Klondike theme. It has never been the same since and of course, Covid got in the way this year. Many thanks for reading and commenting Geri. Hope all is well with you. Allan
