The Current Normal – the End of Summer is Out the Window
Another glorious fall day, today, sun and cloud with skirling winds taking all my leaves off the tree and dropping them on my lawn. At a few points to day, I looked out the window at the autumn splendour. How the trees have grown in the last 29 + years.
Not much to tell. After working for 3 companies over 43+ years (38 years 7 months with my last company), I finally got that promotion I had waited my entire career for……retirement.
I have been exploring this new career for the past 7+ years and while it is not always exciting, the chance to do what I want for myself and my family instead of what my company wants has been very fulfilling. Early on, there was a long list of projects in my “to-do” hopper and I attacked these projects with a vengeance for the first 9 months of retirement. Eventually, my brain told me that this was not what retirement was about, so it took me another 5 months before my industriousness again took over and I attacked another line of projects, this time somewhat shorter and less complicated, as well as many new projects related to the family weddings in 2016. After going hard for 6 weeks and 3 weddings, my body was telling me to relax, then the flu bug hit and as soon as that was done with me, my sciatic acted up. No rest for the wicked. In 2020 and 2021, the Covid 19 pandemic changed the whole retirement gig. I was lucky to not be still working, for sure.
I enjoy photography, gardening, working with my hands, walking, cycling, skiing, travelling, reading and creating special photo and video productions obtained in my first pastime. I may never become wealthy in any of these pursuits, but I already feel I am rich in life experiences far beyond any expectation.

Better enjoy all the fall colours while they last. Winter is coming. Sigh.
For sure. The leaves are mostly long gone here, given our recent high winds and snow is forecast for Friday. I installed my snow tires yesterday. I’m ready, but that does not mean I like it. Thanks for reading and commenting. Stay well. Allan
Love the leaves! That Mountain Ash is beautiful! Our leaves our just about gone. Temps in the 70’s today and after today we get a cold and rude awakening to no more summer!!!
Leaves are gone here now, too and there is this white stuff on the house roof…..hmm, I know we are not close to any white sand beaches, so I’m gonna say it …..Snuh…..Snuh…..Snow. Yikes. Who could have seen this coming. Thanks for reading. Allan
It seems this year our trees are changing in stages. Some years I will look over our town and see a nice mix of yellow and red, but this year it’s like yellow, a lot of green, some brown, and a few red.
It is like even the fall colours are depressed by the situation. The blaze of yellow disappeared into dull brown pretty quickly here. Thanks for reading and commenting. Allan
Here in Missouri, Fall is still in its early stages. The leaves are beginning to turn and the temps are cooling down. But yes, Summer does leave us in a riot of color! And your photos of it are just lovely.
Winter is in the early stages. That is what happens this far North. Glad you are just slipping into fall. Thanks so much for reading and commenting Ann. Allan
Wow! These are some seriously stunning fall colours. In Ireland, autumn is pretty much in early stages, but it’s different to all the previous years. Some of the trees are already without the leaves while others are still green. Nothing makes sense about 2020 anyway 😹 Thanks for sharing and take care 😊 Aiva
Glad you have some fall remaining. 2020 is a do-over I think. Our colours are mostly gone now and there is this thin coating f white on my grass. Somehow, I don’t think it is beach sand. Thanks for reading Aiva. Allan
I think of all the Fall colors, the red has to be my favorite! I just love the way the reds pop out so prominently from allt he different greens, yellows and oranges!
I love the red too, likely because it is rare on the prairies. But I could not believe how beautiful the aspens in Jasper were in late September, from green to orange to red to yellow. Have never seen a display like this before. Thanks for reading Angie.

Actually, winter is at our door. Snow occurred briefly this AM. We had better get used to it. Thanks for reading. Allan

That’s what happens North of 49. After June 21, the sun starts to move South and leave us with cooler weather. Only 5 1/2 months ’til spring. Yay.

I learnt that in physical geography but forget the term to describe exactly what you say. Something equinox …

Autumnal Equinox. Equal Day/Equal Night, but definitely fall.
